Cancertown: Character Profiles

Profiles of the cast of Cancertown will appear here as the characters enter the story.

Vincent Morley
Vincent Morley:Cancertown. Concept Sketch by Stephen DowneyThough he calls himself a Private Investigator, Morley specialises in finding missing persons. A few years ago, Morley was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumour, the appearance of which coincided with his discovery of an alternate version of London, into which it is possible to fall at certain boundary points. Morley suffers from Cotard’s Syndrome, a delusion that leads him to feel as if his body has “died”. Morley is aware of his condition, and believes it is related to his discovery of the alternate London, which he calls Cancertown. Morley crosses over into Cancertown to find people who have fallen in, and return them before they become fully integrated into it.

Bugfuck:Cancertown. Concept Sketch by Stephen Downey

Bugfuck
Bugfuck is a badly burned, and seemingly irretrievably insane, teenage girl befriended by Morley. She is the only other “real world” person who believes in Cancertown. With a strange hold over Morley that neither of them seems to understand she is, in her own way, as lost as he is.

The Corpsegrinder
The Corpsegrinder by Stephen DowneyThe oldest of the Cancertown players, Corpsegrinder is a wily old man with a hair-trigger temper. He is everything you are afraid of in the city at night. You will find him in the darkest places. He is the heart of the nightmare. The greater your fear, the bigger he gets. Corpsegrinder's territory is littered with the bones of ally and enemy alike.

Badmouth
Badmouth:Cancertown. Concept Sketch by Stephen DowneyAn escapee from Cancertown that pursues Morley across London. This Badmouth is not like others of its kind that Morley has encountered before. It is a big one, it can talk, and it has arms and everything. All things considered it is not really the sort of creature you want to find as a surprise house guest, especially if you have lost your wallet and your keys and it is the middle of the night.

Crosshair
Crosshair by Stephen DowneyYou can't hide from Crosshair. He doesn't just see where you are, he sees where you are going to be. It's easy to make Crosshair's shit list, he's not known as a reasonable man. Don't try and play games with Crosshair, he will see right through you. One wrong look, and you're dead.

Blistermen
Blisterman by Stephen DowneyGelatinous creatures that slurp and bulge their way around Cancertown, always on the lookout for human transients that have fallen in. Once a Blisterman has attached itself, limpet-like, to a confused and unwary visitor there is little that can be done to help them. Within days all memories and personality will be leeched away. Soon, the unfortunate will be just like them.

Evil Twin by Stephen DowneyEvil Twin
Evil Twin told herself where she would find Morley. She wants the In-Betweener. She wants Morley to bring him to her. Don't be fooled, it's not a little girl. Keep running and don't look back. No matter how friendly she seems, she's got nothing to tell you that you need to hear.  Be careful what you say to her. Be even more careful of what she says to you. She has a wicked tongue in her head and no mistake.

Cancertown By Cy Dethan. Strawman by Stephen DowneyThe Straw Men
Twisted, vicious creations of Evil Twin, the Straw Men are all that remains of those who have fallen into her part of Cancertown from the world outside. Aggressive and numerous, they attack en masse, swamping their victims in a flurry of false memories and deadly nightmares to weaken their connection to their former lives and draw them under Evil Twin’s control.

Cancertown by Cy Dethan. Papercut by Stpehn DowneyPapercut
One of the less flamboyant players in town, Papercut is nevertheless among the more powerful. Her touch brings destruction to Cancertown inhabitants and constructs, and little there can long survive her attention. Papercut has no serious interest in the power struggles that so absorb her peers, and she has never made a serious bid for supremacy. That alone makes her the object of great suspicion to the others.

Cancertown by Cy Dethan. The Piecemaker by Stephen DowneyThe Piecemaker
His form constantly shifting with the balance of power, the patchwork creature known as the Piecemaker serves as conscience and lawmaker to the inhabitants of Cancertown. Alliances are formed and broken on his authority, and even the biggest players in town know better than to cross him. No matter what your business in Cancertown might be, you conduct it with the Piecemaker’s consent, or you bring him down upon you.
